You can use Dinkbound without an account, and we keep very little. We show no advertising and we do not sell personal information.
If you only browse
Your location, if you allow it, is used to work out how far each event is from you. It is kept in a cookie in your browser (njp_loc), sent with your requests so distances can be calculated, and not stored in any account or database of ours.
Your Distance filter is kept in a cookie in your browser (njp_filters), so the list is already filtered when you come back. A third cookie (njp_kept) only records the day our server last renewed the others.
We record which screens and actions are used (for example, that a filter was changed or an event was opened) through an analytics service. Those records carry no name, email address or location, and the analytics service keeps nothing on your device.
When something goes wrong we receive a technical error report with no personal information in it. Our hosting provider keeps a short-lived log of web requests, which includes the IP address a request came from and the approximate location it derives from that address.
If you create an account
We keep your email address. If you choose a password, our sign-in provider stores it in a protected form that we cannot read. If you sign in with Google, Google sends our sign-in provider your email address, your name and the address of your profile picture, and the sign-in provider keeps them with your account. We use the name only to fill in the profile form for you, we add it to your player profile only if you submit that form, and we do not use the picture.
We keep your saved filters and your choice of theme with your account, so they follow you to other devices.
Signing in sets three more cookies: one that holds your session (your browser may store it in several parts), one that marks you as signed in (njp_user) so pages can be drawn correctly, and one that remembers a Dusk theme (njp_theme).
While you are signed in, your browser’s local storage may also hold one small note (njp_ahead) saying that a filter or theme change made on this device has not reached your account yet. It holds no personal information and is removed once the change is saved.
If you complete your player profile
We keep your first and last name, your ZIP code, your skill level if you give one, and the time at which you confirmed that you are 18 or older. That is a time, never a date of birth.
Your ZIP code is used to work out distances on a device where you have not shared your location; on that device the town and approximate centre of your ZIP code are kept in the location cookie (njp_loc). We ask for this information so that we can, in future, help you find other players and games near you. Before any feature shows your information to another person, this policy will be updated and you will be asked.
Who handles information for us
Supabase stores our database and runs sign-in. Cloudflare hosts the site. Resend sends the sign-in emails, so it receives your email address. PostHog provides analytics; when you are signed in it receives an internal account number and no other detail about you. Sentry receives error reports. Google provides the Continue with Google button: when the sign-up or log-in window is shown, your browser loads that button from Google, so Google sees your IP address and can read its own cookies. Google learns about your Dinkbound account only if you choose to sign in with it.
We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, or use it for anything other than running Dinkbound.
How long we keep it
We keep account and profile information until you delete your account. An email address that asked for a sign-in code and never used it is deleted after 7 days.
When you delete your account, your account and your profile are removed at once. Analytics records made while you were signed in carry only the internal account number and are not removed. We keep one record that an account was deleted: the date, how long the account had existed, whether its profile had been completed, and the reason if you chose to give one. That record holds no information that identifies you, so please do not put personal details in the reason.
Your choices
You can change your ZIP code, skill level and theme on your profile page, and delete your account there. You can clear the cookies in your browser at any time. To correct your name, or to ask for a copy of what we hold about you, contact us.
Children and teens
Dinkbound is not directed to children. We do not knowingly keep information from anyone under 13, and accounts are not open to them. Player profiles are for adults 18 or older. If you believe a child or a teen has given us information in a way this policy does not allow, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes. If a change affects information we already hold about you, we will tell you before it takes effect.
